(Winchester, Va.) – The Dickinson baseball team saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end at #18-ranked Shenandoah University on Monday afternoon.
The Red Devils drop just their second game of the season, falling to 14-2 overall. The Hornets improve to 16-4 with the win.
The Red Devils scored once in the first as Mark Adams (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive) drew a bases loaded walk to score Ryan Dolan (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Germantown Academy), putting the Devils on the board.
Shenandoah answered in the bottom of the inning with a three-run homerun by Michael Paul. Ricky Pardo drove in a run in the third to stretch the lead to 4-1.
Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) singled to score Hank Sanders (Wellsville, Pa./Northern), pulling the Devils within two.
The Devils pulled in front in the top of the fourth. Phil Werner (Potomac, Md./St. Andrew's) led-off the inning with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly from Dolan. Steven Haynes (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) single in a run and Tursi tallied another RBI, drawing a bases loaded walk.
The Hornets struck back, scoring six runs in the fourth. Three straight singles and a double to clear the bases put Shenandoah back on top, 7-4. They tacked on three more on an error, balk and RBI single from Corbin Lewis.
Shenandoah extended the lead to 13-4 with three runs in the fifth. Paul tallied another RBI in the sixth for the final of 14-5.
Tursi went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Sanders went 2-for-4, scoring two runs. Matt Primavera (Erdenheim, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) added a pair of hits as well.
Paul led 18th-ranked Shenandoah, going 4-for-5 with seven RBIs and three runs scored.
The Red Devils are scheduled to face Keuka College on Tuesday at MacPhail Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
