(Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson baseball team rallied at McDaniel College on Friday, but came up short, falling 7-5 to the Green Terror.
The hosts opened with three runs in the first inning. Marshall Betts singled to score a run and then came in on a bases loaded walk, drawn by Joe Fiore. Nick Valori scored on another walk to stretch the lead to 3-0.
The Red Devils answered with a run in the top of the second. Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) led-off with a walk and moved to third on a Mark Adams (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive) single. He came in to score as Phil Werner (Potomac, Md./St. Andrew's) reached on a fielder's choice.
McDaniel added another big inning in the second, scoring four runs to stretch the lead to 7-1. Betts tallied another RBI and Valori doubled to bring him across for the second time on the day. Cameron Barr doubled in another run to highlight the inning.
The Devils rallied with four runs in the fourth inning. Adams doubled and came in to score on an error off the bat of Steven Haynes (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) .
Sophomore Brian McCloud (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) doubled to score Werner and Haynes. Ryan Dolan (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Germantown Academy) singled to score McCloud, cutting the deficit to 7-5.
The Red Devils threatened in the fifth and sixth but neither team would tally another run.
Dolan finished 2-for-5 with an RBI while McCloud added two RBIs. Tyler Clauson-Wolf (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends) came on in relief, scattering five hits over 6.1 innings.
The Red Devils slip to 18-9 overall and 4-7 in the Centennial Conference. They return home for a double-header with Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 pm.
