Red Devils Claim Nightcap to Split With Diplomats

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team split a Centennial Conference double-header with visiting Franklin & Marshall on Saturday at MacPhail Field.

The Diplomats claimed the opener 7-1, but the Red Devils earned redemption with an 11-4 decision in the nightcap.

The Diplomats scored three runs in the third inning behind a two-run double from Brett Poniros. Poniros drove in another with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to stretch the lead to 4-0.

Mike Adams (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive) singled and Conor Foote (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion) pinch-ran, moving to second on a Hank Sanders (Wellsville, Pa./Northern) single. Foote came in to score on an RBI from Steven Haynes (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley).

The Diplomats tacked on three insurance runs in the top of the ninth for a 7-1 decision. Senior Ryan Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) suffered the loss, despite another remarkable outing. He recorded 11 strikeouts while scattering six hits over eight innings of work.

Sophomore Brian McCloud (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) went 2-for-4 at the plate in the opener.

Junior Harley Moore (Deltaville, Va./Middlesex) went 6.2 innings to win the nightcap behind an eight strikeout performance. First-year Mo Felt (Wheeling, W. Va./The Linsly School) came on in relief to close out the game.

The Devils scored three runs on three straight singles in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. They answered a Diplomat run in the fifth, scoring a pair on the bottom half of the inning.

Mitch Helmandollar (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) came on to pinch-run after McCloud doubled in the sixth. He teamed with Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) for a double-steal before Adams doubled to the wall in left center to score both runners.

Adams came in to score on a single from Sanders to put the Devils up, 8-1. Helmandollar launched a base-clearing double in the seventh inning to drive in three more runs, after F&M scored three in the top of the inning.

Benn Parker (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) doubled in the inning as well. He finished 3-for-4 in game two, scoring twice in the nightcap.

Mike Adams went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs while McCloud went 2-for-4 again, adding an RBI. First-year catcher Rick Hopkins (Egg Harbor Twp./Holy Spirit) went 3-for-5 as well, driving in a run and scoring once.

The Red Devils improve to 19-10 overall and 5-8 in the Centennial Conference. They are home again on Monday for a make-up game with Penn State Harrisburg at 3:30 pm.
