Sanders Walk-Off Single Lifts Red Devils

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team split a double-header with Swarthmore, winning the nightcap in dramatic fashion, on a walk-off RBI from senior Hank Sanders (Wellsville, Pa./Northern).

Senior Ryan Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) turned in a great complete game effort in the opener, but suffered a heartbreaker, 3-2. Kramer booked 11 strikeouts as he suffers his first loss of the season.

Ryan Dolan (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Germantown Academy) doubled in the third and scored on an RBI single from Steven Haynes (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) to put the Devils on the board.

Nicko Burnett doubled and scored on a Scoop Ruxin single to tie the game in the top of the fourth. Mark Adams (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive) doubled to the wall in center and came in to score on a double by sophomore Matt Primavera (Erdenheim, Pa./Chestnut Hill) to answer in the bottom half of the inning.

Roy Walked came on to pinch-hit in the top of the ninth and drove in what would prove to be the winning run.

Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) went 2-for-4 and reached on an error.

Game two was a pitcher's duel as well as the teams combined for 11 hits. Junior Harley Moore (Deltaville, Va./Middlesex) recorded eight strikeouts, allowing just one earned run in as solid eight innings.

First-year Mo Felt (Wheeling, W. Va./The Linsly School) came on to close, recording three outs in the top of ninth to earn the win.

Phil Werner (Potomac, Md./St. Andrew's) led-off the bottom of the ninth with a double to start the rally. Rick Hopkins (Egg Harbor Twp, N.J./Holy Spirit) reached on a fielder's choice as Werner beat out a throw to third. Mitch Helmandollar (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) drew and intentional walk to load the bases.

Benn Parker (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) reached as Nathan Booth made a strong play to get Werner out at home. That set the stage from Sanders heroics, as he drove a full-count pitch into left field to score pinch-runner Conor Foote (Narbeth, Pa./Lower Merion) with a walk-off single.

Sanders went 2-for-5 while Werner went 2-for-3 on the day with a sacrifice bunt. Mark Adams scored twice with a double.

The Red Devils improve to 16-4 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial Conference. They are scheduled to host Johns Hopkins University at MacPhail Field on Monday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
