(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team dropped a 4-0 decision to visiting Gettysburg College on Wednesday. First-year pitcher Eric Brown made his collegiate debut for the Bullets, tossing a four-hit shutout, in a complete game effort.
Gettysburg scored two runs in the fourth inning as Tommy Lenoir was hit by a pitch and came in to score on a single from Cam Macdonald. Scott Zanghe singled and would score on a wild pitch for the 2-0 advantage.
Lenoir doubled and scored again in the fifth, as Zanghe tallied an RBI single. A double from Mike Kielbasa and an error led to another Bullet run in the sixth, stretching the margin to 4-0.
The Devils threatened in the bottom of the sixth. Sophomore Brian McCloud (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) led-off the inning with a single and moved to third on a one-out double from Mitch Helmandollar (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro). The Bullets were able to get out of the inning, holding on to the shutout.
Hank Sanders (Wellsville, Pa./Northern) and Mark Adams (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive) added hits for the Red Devils as well.
Gettysburg improves to 20-3 overall and 6-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 16-5 and 2-3 in the conference. The Devils travel to Gettysburg on Friday for the second game in the series, and return home for a Saturday double-header with Ursinus College.
