(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's lacrosse team turned
in a strong performance on Wednesday, posting a 12-7 win, over
visiting #16-ranked Gettysburg College. The victory was even
sweeter as it marked #-200 for head coach Dave Webster (Dickinson
'88). Webster is in his 13th season at the helm of his
alma mater, and in the 23rd year of his career.
Senior All-American Brian Cannon
(Reisterstown, Md./Loyola Blakefield) led the way with a
solid, five goal effort to pace the Red Devil attack while
sophomore Nick Baxter
(Boxford, Mass./Governor's) was a brick wall in the cage,
stopping 16 shots on the day, including seven in the final
quarter.
Cannon put Dickinson on the board, scoring at the 11:03 mark of
the first period. Tyler White
(Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) finished an assist from
Ace
Sudah (Franklin Park, N.J./St. Joseph), on a fast
break, to put the Devils in front, 2-0, with 9:33 on the clock.
Derek Ruebling scored the first of his three goals to put
Gettysburg on the board, less than a minute later. Sophomore
Chris
Menard (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) ripped a
shot into the back of the net for a 3-1 advantage, with 2:26
remaining in the first.
Robby Maddux tallied a goal and an assist to tie the game with
1:29 to play, but White answered in the final minute to put the
Devils up, 4-3, at the end of the first period.
Martin Manilla scored, just over a minute into the second period
to knot the game once again. Ruebling traded goals with Brian
Gleason (Darien, Conn./Darien), but Cannon and Menard
scored back-to-back goals to give Dickinson a 7-5 edge, heading
into halftime.
Maddox capitalized on a man-up opportunity to cut the margin to
one before Cannon and Menard responded to give the Devils a 9-6
lead with 9:30 remaining in the third. That would close out the
scoring for the period.
Cannon tallied his fourth and fifth goals to open the fourth
quarter. He tallied off an assist from Gleason at the 12:08 mark
and scored unassisted with 3:31 remaining in the game.
Gleason found sophomore Rob Kendall
(Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy), with just over two
minutes remaining, to stretch the lead to 12-6.
Ruebling closed out the scoring with a final tally at the 1:14
mark, for the final of 12-7.
Cannon led the way with his five tallies while Menard added a
hat-trick as well. Gleason finished with a goal and two assists,
while White struck twice on the day.
Baxter stopped six shots in the first and seven in the final
quarter, making 16 saves on the day. Draper Donley
(Lutherville, Md./St. Paul's School) and Youssef Gorgi
(Providence, R.I./Moses Brown) each controlled three
ground balls and did a solid job on clears. Michael Smith
(Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) also played well in the
defensive third.
Senior Carter Moore
(Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolf Academy) controlled nine
face-offs and six ground balls. Long pole Graham Parsons
(Wilton, Conn./Wilton) caused three turnovers and
controlled a pair of GBs.
Senior Jon Maddalone made 12 saves in the nets for Gettysburg as
the Bullets slip to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial
Conference.
The Red Devils improve to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
They are home again on Saturday, hosting #6-ranked Washington
College on Red & White Day at Biddle Field.
