(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #5-ranked Dickinson men's basketball team continued to roll, posting a 97-56 win over visiting Washington College on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils shot a remarkable 56 percent from the field as every marked the scorebook in their highest offensive output of the season.
The Shoremen played even with the Devils in the opening minutes before a 7-0 run gave the hosts a 17-8 lead at the 14:06 mark. First-year Justus Melton (Charlotte, N.C./Covenant Day) put Dickinson up by nine and later knocked down a three-pointer to stretch the margin to 11, with 10:51 remaining in the half.
The Red Devils would hold a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest, building a 26-point advantage before halftime. Junior guard Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) hit 5-of-7 shots in the first half to lead Dickinson with 11 points while Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) sank a pair of three-pointers for 10 points.
Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./La Salle College) had a strong start, hitting 4-of-5 shots for nine points while Melton tallied nine in the opening half as well. Dickinson outscored the Shoremen, 30-6 in the paint and 15-0 off the bench.
Pat Morgan hit a three-pointer for Washington to open the second half. The Devils answered with a quick 10-4 run to extend the lead to 62-33, less than five minutes in. Dickinson continued to pound the ball inside, creating separation throughout the remainder of the game.
The Devils kept the foot on the gas pedal down the stretch. First-years Chris McNeal (Collegeville, Pa./Episcopal) and Sam Lorenzo (Sterling, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) knocked down a pair of three-pointers and senior Brandon Goldson (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) and first-year Ian Morris (New York, N.Y./The Gunnery) connected from beyond the arc for the final of 97-56.
Five players reached double-figures for the Red Devils. Collins led the way, hitting 8-of-10 shots for a game-high 18 points, adding five rebounds and three blocked shots. Hinnenkamp went 6-for-8, scoring 14 points to go with four rebounds and four assists.
Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Camden Catholic) made the most of minimal playing time, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, scoring 12 points in just 13 minutes of action. Angradi tallied 12 points as well, adding three rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists. First-year Robert Picka (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) reached double-figures with 11 points, hitting 5-of-6 free throws and controlling five rebounds.
Melton was just shy of a double-double, scoring nine points to go with 10 rebounds, five assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
Dave Knox matched the game-high with 18 points to lead Washington (2-17, 2-10). He added eight rebounds and went 8-for-12 from the foul line.
The #5-ranked Red Devils improved to 17-2 overall and 10-2 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Gettysburg College on Wednesday night for a double-header. The Red Devil women tip-off at 6:00 pm, followed by the men at 8:00 pm.
