(Chestertown, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team traveled to the eastern shore to face Washington College in a critical Centennial Conference match-up. The Red Devils scored almost immediately in the second half with what would prove to be the lone goal of game to give Dickinson the win.
Washington opened with a quick corner before the Red Devils countered with an attack and back-to-back shots from seniors Jenna Lamb (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary) and Nicole Fronsdahl (Groton, Mass./Groton).
Dickinson continued to press of offense and aggressively attacked, leading to multiple offside calls in the early stretch of the match. The Red Devils held the advantage in the first half, outshooting the hosts, 8-0.
The Devils also forced five corners while allowing just two on the defensive end in the first half. Dickinson put three shots on target with Melissa Barry making three saves in the opening stanza.
The Red Devils struck early in the second half as Lamb found the back of the net, just over a minute after the break, blasting a long shot from outside the area and into the left corner.
The Red Devils kept the pressure on, creating another great chance as Erin Sutphen (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) broke in behind the defense, but Barry made a great diving save to keep the ball out of the net. Sutphen tallied another shot just moments later as Dickinson kept the pressure on, early in the second half.
Dickinson fired-off five straight shots with Sutphen putting three on goal while senior Bridgette Corbran (Manasquan, N.J./Wall) forced another save from Barry, just moments later.
Washington continued to battle throughout the second half, generating three corners. Julia Jakus was the only Shorewomen to put a strike on target as senior Charlotte Armour (New Haven, Conn./Choate-Rosemary Hall) made the save to secure the shutout.
In the end, the Red Devils held a 16-5 advantage in shots and an 8-5 edge in corners. Barry finished with seven saves as Washington falls to 3-8-1 overall and 0-6 in the Centennial Conference.
The Red Devils improve to 7-5-2 with a 3-3-1 mark in conference play. Dickinson returns home to face Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday night at Miller Memorial Field. Opening kick-off is set for 7:00 pm.
