(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's swim team suffered a tough loss at Gettysburg College on Wednesday night, falling 110-83. The Bullets had a strong start as they remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the Centennial Conference.
First-year Mitchell Reynolds (Frederick, Md./Frederick) turned in some strong performances in a double-win night. He came from behind in the final two laps to capture the 400 individual medley and performed the feat again to win the 500 freestyle, overtaking Ian Scullion at the wall by 15 hundredths of a second. He placed third with the 200 medley relay to start the night.
Senior Cameron Phillips (Woburn, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) won the 100 butterfly and anchored the 200 free relay to a first place finish.
Sophomore Sam Eaton (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) and Michael Lenker (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) went one-two in the 100 yard breaststroke. Lenker joined the medley relay and Eaton added a fourth place showing in the 200 freestyle.
Senior Chris Miles (Hartford, Conn./Kingsford Oxford) swam to silver in the 100 backstroke and touched the wall third in the 1000 yard freestyle.
Junior Alan Karickhoff (Willoughby, Ohio./Hawken School) swam the second leg of the free relay and placed third in the 200 freestyle.
Both Dickinson and Gettysburg programs sported gold caps in honor of a fundraising event to help battle pediatric cancer with the Make Some Noise for Kids Cancer Foundation. The organization's founder Malcolm Sutherland-Foggio attended the meet and spoke with swimmers from both programs.
The Red Devils slip to 5-6 overall and 1-4 in the Centennial Conference. They are on the road again on Saturday, traveling to Swarthmore College for a 2:00 pm start.
