Box Score

VIDEO | RDSN: Dickinson v. Scranton, R. Dolan '17 & H. Moore '15

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team scored in the bottom of the ninth inning to turn back visiting Scranton, 5-4, on Thursday afternoon at MacPhail Field.

First-year Austin Sumners (W. Trenton, N.J./Pennington School) reached on an error, stole second and advanced to third as the ball sailed into center field. That set the stage for a walk-off RBI single from sophomore Ryan Dolan (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Germantown Academy) to lead the Red Devils to the win.

Dolan had a great day, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and the game-winning RBI. He put the Devils on the board in the first inning. He drew a lead-off walk to open the game, stole second and then third by escaping a run down. He came in off the bat of Phil Werner (Potomac, Md./St. Andrew's) to put Dickinson up, 1-0.

Sumners reached on a single in the third and moved over as Dolan was hit by a pitch. They moved around to second and third on a balk, and both came around on a single from first-year Robbie Thompson (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill).

Dolan doubled in the fifth and moved to third on a passed ball. He came in to stretch the lead to 4-0, on a sacrifice fly from Thompson.

Zach Dignam led-off the sixth inning with a double and scored off a sacrifice fly from Ross Danzig to put Scranton on the board. The Royals rallied in the top of the ninth to tie the game.

Patrick Mergel reached on a walk before back-to-back singles brought him around to cut the deficit to a pair of runs. Anthony Simone moved the runners with a sacrifice bunt and Tommy Trotter grounded out to second, scoring Seth Bower while Dominick Gulius went to third. Gulius came in to tie the game as the ball caught the front of the plate and popped to the backstop.

Sumners wasted little time reaching first and making his way to third for Dolan to bring him in for the game-winner. Sumners scored twice on the day as he and Dolan accounted for all five Dickinson runs. Hopkins went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice and a walk while Thompson finished with three RBIs.

Senior left-hander Harley Moore (Deltaville, Va./Middlesex) went six solid innings, recording nine strikeouts while scattering five hits. First-year Reid Collins (West Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford School) came on for two strong innings, booking three strikeouts, and Tyler Clauson-Wolf (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Academy) closed out the game to earn the win.

Dignam led the Royals (1-6), going 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles.

Dickinson improved to 4-8 on the year. They were scheduled to be home for a double-header on Saturday, but that has been canceled. The Red Devils are scheduled to face Penn State Brandywine on Sunday, weather permitting.
