Box Score
(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's lacrosse team slipped to 0-2 in Centennial Conference play, falling to visiting Ursinus College, 8-3, on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears jumped out to an early lead, scoring four goals in the opening quarter and stretching the lead to 5-0 in the second. The game was scoreless until the 8:12 mark with long pole Ryan Ridinger collecting a ground ball and finding a lane to the goal to put the Bears on the board.
Gerard Brown tallied before Ian Desenberg struck with back-to-back goals at the 5:27 mark and again with 4:39 to play in the quarter. Ursinus capitalized on a Red Devil penalty to strike first in the second. It took almost seven minutes, once again, but the Bears tallied a man-up goal, with 8:01 remaining in the half. Logan Panaccione finished an assist from Steve Smyrl for a 5-0 lead.
Junior Chris Menard (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) put the Devils on the board, scoring off a feed from sophomore Tyler Llewellyn (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield), with 4:05 remaining in the half. That would be all the scoring for the half as both defenses held the advantage for the better part of the quarter.
Ursinus managed to net the only two goals of the third quarter, stretching the margin to 7-1, heading into the fourth. Smyrl found the net at the 6:40 mark and Mark Stratton scored off an assist from Brown, with 3:10 on the clock.
Stratton made it 8-1, netting his 15th goal of the season at the 6:40 mark of the fourth. The Red Devils looked to kick-start some momentum, late in the game, scoring at the 5:47 mark. George Mazarakis (Montclair, N.J./Kent) scored off an assist from Austin Dodson (Bethesda, Md./Landon) as Mike Cherry (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) cut in front of the crease, screening the goaltender.
The Devils continued to press, but were unable to find the twine again until the 2:45 mark. Menard fired another rocket, finding the net for his second of the game.
Junior Greg Castro (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) had a solid afternoon, winning 10-of-14 face-offs, controlling four ground balls. Michael Smith (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) and Graham Parsons (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) played well on the wings, combining for seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Junior goaltender Nick Baxter (Boxford, Mass./Governor's) finished with 14 saves on the day, controlling three ground balls. He opened with seven saves in the first quarter and tallied four in the fourth.
Stratton led the Ursinus attack with two goals and one assist. Brian Neff made 14 saves as well as the Bears improve to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
The Red Devils (2-6, 0-2 CC) are home again next Saturday, hosting Haverford College at 3:00 pm.
