(Chestertown, Md.) – The Dickinson men's lacrosse team turned in a dominant performance, posting a 9-1 win at Washington College on Saturday afternoon, on the eastern shore.
The Red Devils took control, right out of the gate, scoring just eight seconds into the contest. Sophomore Will Trevenen (Montclair, N.J./Taft) pulled in a feed from junior face-off man Greg Castro (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) and scored on the opening draw.
First-year Max Troast (Glen Rock, N.J./Don Bosco) tallied at the 10:43 mark, finishing an assist from Kobi Frankel (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon). Junior Chris Menard (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) ripped the twine for a 5-0 advantage, with 1:35 remaining in the opening quarter.
Washington answered with 20 seconds on the clock as Sam Birnbaum scored off an assist from his brother Luke, to cut the deficit to 5-1, at the end of the first.
The second quarter was a defensive battle as junior goaltender Nick Baxter (Boxford, Mass./Governor's) turned away eight shots to keep the Shoremen off the board for the entire period. Jackson Szurley did all he could in the Washington nets, making four saves to hold the Devils to just one.
Kendall trigged a natural hat-trick with the lone goal of the second quarter. He scored off an assist from Tyler Llewellyn (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) at the 9:40 mark, to give Dickinson a 6-1 advantage.
Kendall tallied twice in another defensive quarter as the Devils stretched the margin to 8-1, at the end of three. Kendall found the net at the 5:04 mark and scored his 15th of the season, with 25 seconds remaining, off an assist from Menard.
The trend continued into the fourth quarter with Szurley making four saves, but the Devils had done the damage and would be content with a low scoring finish. Troast tacked on the final touch for Dickinson, scoring with 3:21 remaining for the final of 9-1.
Castro won 7-of-12 face-offs and controlled three ground balls to go with his assist. Ryan Campbell (Rumson, N.J./Rumson Fairhaven) and Zach Blumenstein (Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Prep) each went 1-for-1 on the day.
Kendall led the attack with three goals and one assist while Troast found the net twice on the afternoon. D.J. Henderson (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) caused a pair of turnovers, turning in a strong defensive effort along with Slay Sudah (Franklin Park, N.J./St. Joseph) and John Bower (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield).
