Bears Claim Two in Centennial Double-Header

(Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team dropped a twin-bill at Ursinus College on Saturday afternoon. The Bears slipped away with a 2-1 decision in the opener and rallied in game two for a 9-3 decision.

 

Chris Jablonski reached on an error to lead-off the fourth inning. Austin Feuerman lived up to the designated-hitter title, tagging a two-run homer to put the Bears on the board.

 

The Red Devils looked to counter in the top of the fifth as senior Steven Haynes (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) led-off with a triple. Mike DeVivo (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) followed up with an RBI single to make the score 2-1.

 

DeVivo added a two-out double in the seventh and sophomore Ryan Dolan (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Germantown Academy) singled and stole second in the eighth, but the Devils were unable to plate the equalizer.

 

Garrett Kurtz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) suffered the loss, despite a six-hit effort, allowing one earned run in eight innings of work.

 

Junior Brian McCloud (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) reached on an error and scored on an single from first-year Austin Sumners (W. Trenton, N.J./Pennington School) to put Dickinson up, 1-0, in the fourth inning of game two.

 

Dolan tripled in the fifth and scored as Matt Primavera (Erdenheim, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) drove him in and reached on an error. Ursinus pulled even as Greg Petorak doubled to score Jose Colon and came in on a base hit from Timo Muro.

 

The Devils pushed across the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth, scoring with two outs. Sumners singled and stole second base. He came in to score as Haynes connected again with an RBI single.

 

Devyn Kerr and Vince Rondolone tallied RBI doubles as the Bears pulled in front, 5-3, in the seventh. Vincent Terry led-off the eighth inning with pinch-hit triple, triggering a four-run inning and a 9-3 final.

 

Sumners went 2-for-5 with a run scored, stolen base and an RBI. Haynes added a pair of hits, an RBI and a stolen base. Senior Harley Moore (Deltaville, Va./Middlesex) suffered the loss, despite an remarkable effort on the mound. He struck out 10 batters, allowing just three earned runs.

 

The Bears improved to 14-6 overall and 4-3 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 10-14-1 and 4-4-1 in the CC. The Red Devils are in action again on Monday, hosting Gettysburg College at 4:00 pm.
