Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – Dickinson senior guard Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) scored his 1,000th career point on Wednesday night, leading the Red Devil men's basketball team to a 71-62 win over Johns Hopkins. Angradi hit a jumper midway through the second half, becoming the 25th player in program history and the third player in the past three seasons to reach the milestone.
Angradi was held to just three points in the first half but caught fire to finish with 21 on the night, going 7-for-11 from the field.
The Blue Jays looked like they may have things going their way early, jumping out to a 9-0 start. Senior Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) and first-year Elijah Wright (Orange, N.J./The Pennington School) led the charge as Dickinson went on a 13-3 run to pull in front with just under 11 minutes to play in the half.
Wright made three straight steals, scoring twice and feeding Hinnenkamp on the third. First-year point guard Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) converted a three-point play and scored off a nice drive to the hoop to put the Devils up, 20-17.
Nikhil Panu and Jesse Flannery hit back-to-back triples to put the Blue Jays on top, 23-22. Hinnenkamp finished the half strong, scoring eight points to go with two steals and a blocked shot to stretch the lead to double-figures at the break, 35-25.
Angradi scored right out of the gate to start the second half, followed by three-pointer from Hinckley that gave the Devils a 41-27 lead, just over two minutes in.
The Devils held a double-digit lead for most of the second half but Hopkins kept battling, looking to make a significant run. The Blue Jays would challenge the Devils down the stretch, putting together a 10-2 run to pull within a field-goal with 4:18 to play in the game.
Junior Robert Picka (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) gave the Devils some huge minutes down the stretch, controlling the boards and the paint in the final minutes. Angradi was solid from the free throw line, converting a rare four-point play and hitting 3-of-4 in the final minute to secure the win.
Hinnenkamp led the way with a game-high 22 points, adding 13 rebounds for a double-double. He added three steals, two assists and two blocked shots as well, hitting 9-of-13 shots from the floor. Angradi went 5-for-6 from the line for his 21 points while Hinckley tallied eight points, two assists and two steals.
Picka tallied seven while Wright scored six to go with three steals. First-year Jule Brown (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) gave the Devils some great minutes as well, scoring six points, with five rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Sam Gordon led the Blue Jays (8-8, 5-4) with a double-double behind 15 points and 14 rebounds on the night.
The Red Devils improve to 6-10 overall and 5-4 in the Centennial Conference. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Muhlenberg College at 4:00 pm.
