Box Score (Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team suffered its second straight, two-point setback, falling 69-67 at Ursinus College on Saturday afternoon.
Jule Brown (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) put the Devils up early, hitting a pair of three-pointers for a 6-2 lead. Joseph LoStracco scored the Bears' first six points, tying the game. Brown answered with another field-goal, scoring the first eight points for Dickinson.
Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) hit a three-pointer to trigger an 11-2 run, putting the Devils in front, 17-8.
Solid defense on both ends made points hard to come by, but the Devils built the lead to 20-12 before the Bears countered to cut the deficit to 20-17. Brown hit a foul line jumper and Elijah Wright (Orange, N.J./The Pennington School) hit two free throws to stretch the lead to 24-17.
Robert Picka (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) came on to score on a nice move inside and came up with a big rejection on the other end.
The Red Devils hit a cold streak on the offensive end but were also able to counter with solid defense. The Bears were able to claw their way back before the end of the half, cutting the lead to 25-24. Brown traded baskets with Ursinus to give Dickinson a 29-28 advantage at the break.
The teams traded field-goals to start the second half. The Devils built a 35-30 lead before Brian Rafferty hit a three-pointer to answer. Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) knocked down a jumper and Picka converted a three-point play and added a free throw to make the score, 41-35.
Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) hit a three-pointer from the top of the key at the 13 minute mark. Remi Janicot cut the lead to three with a pair of free throws and Malik Draper made it a one-point game with a tough lay-up inside.
Janicot put the Bears in front, 46-44, knocking down a three-pointer from the left wing, forcing a timeout. Angradi came back with a nice cut off a missed shot and tied the game with a lay-up.
Draper came up big with a three-pointer and LoStracco finished inside to give Ursinus a 51-46 advantage. Dickinson rallied to tie the game at 51.
Free throws put Ursinus on top, 55-52. Angradi was fouled outside the arc and hit all three free throws to pull the Devils even once again. Rafferty hit a pair of free throws to give the Bears a brief lead before Jon Stenger (Midlothian, Va./James River) buried a wide open three-pointer from the wing.
LoStracco drew a foul and hit both ends to put the hosts back on top, 59-58. The Bears hit another free throw and Draper grabbed the offensive rebound on the second. The Devils forced a turnover and Hinckley hit a three-pointer for a 61-60, Red Devil lead.
Draper was fouled and he hit one-of-two to knot the game. Hinckley hit two free throws and the Bears quickly countered with a lay-up to pull back even. Lostracco hit a free throw for a one-point Bear advantage at the 1:48 mark.
Angradi hit a tough foul line jumper, with 1:32 on the clock. Rafferty rattled in a three-pointer for a 67-65, Ursinus lead. The Devils missed and were forced to foul but Mark Wonderling would miss both free throws. The Devils were unable to capitalize and had to foul Patrick Mekongo, who hit both attempts for a four point lead.
Angradi would hit as the buzzer sounded but the Devils came up short, 69-67.
LoStracco led the Bears (9-9, 5-6 CC) with a double-double, scoring 17 points to go with 10 rebounds. Remicot added 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Brown led the Red Devils with a game-high 18 points, adding seven rebounds and three assists. Angradi knocked down five three-pointers for 16 points, grabbing five rebounds. Hinckley tallied nine points, four assists and three rebounds while Hinnenkamp controlled 11 rebounds
The Devils slip to 6-12 overall and 5-6 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face McDaniel College on Tuesday night at 8:00 pm.
