Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team used a balanced attack and made a big run at the end of the first half to post a convincing 82-63 win over visiting Washington College on Saturday afternoon at the Kline Center.
The Shoremen hit a pair of three-pointers to keep things close early before first-year guard Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) hit back-to-back shots and senior Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) knocked down a three-pointer to double-up Washington, 16-8, at the 12:46 mark.
First-year Jule Brown (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) had a nice start as well, helping the Red Devils stretch the lead to as many as 15 at the three minute mark of the first half. Classmate Jon Stenger (Midlothian, Va./James River) buried a pair of three-pointers and Angradi added another to put Dickinson in front at halftime, 47-25.
The Devils were dominant in the paint, outscoring the Shoremen, 26-6, holding a 20-11 advantage on the boards.
Angradi banged another triple to start the second half by doubling-up the Shoremen once again. Washington would counter, putting together a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 50-35, with 16:57 remaining in the game.
Angradi was fouled on a three-point attempt at the 12:02 mark. He sank all three free throws to stretch the lead back to 17. Sophomore Justus Melton (Charlotte, N.C./Covenant Day) had a nice stretch of eight points, capping his own personal run with a break-away dunk that gave Dickinson a 68-45 lead at the nine minute mark.
Washington continued to battle, but could not cut the deficit to under 20 until the final seconds.
James Drury led Washington (2-8, 0-4 CC) with 15 points and three assists, hitting a trio of three-pointers.
The Red Devils had five players reach double-figures on the afternoon. Angradi led the way with 17 behind four three-pointers. Brown finished with a strong line, scoring 13 points to go with seven rebounds, five assists and a steal.
First-year Michael Jurzynski (Pearl River, N.Y./The Master's School) had a strong outing as well. He matched Melton with 13 points and a pair of blocked shots while the pair combined for 10 rebounds. Stenger reached double-figures with 10 points and senior Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, adding six points, two assists, a steal and a blocked shot.
The Red Devils improve to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in the Centennial Conference. They are home again on Tuesday night, hosting Ursinus College at 8:00 pm.
