Box Score (Chestertown, Md.) – The Dickinson field hockey team came out on top of a key Centennial Conference match-up on Saturday, overtaking host Washington College, 2-1.
Sophomore Chelsea Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) tallied her conference-leading 16th goal of the season, rattling the cage in the opening two minutes of the match to put the Red Devils on the scoreboard.
Alli Dudley pulled the Shorewomen even, tipping in a shot from Jennifer Tordella with just over four minutes remaining in the first half.
Dickinson scored the game-winner with just over 14 minutes remaining in regulation as junior Amber Dey (Flemington, N.J./South Hunterdon) found senior Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) who chipped the ball into the net from about 10 yards out.
The Red Devils turned in a strong defensive effort down the stretch. Washington forced five corners in the final 12 minutes, producing two wide shots and one that was turned away by junior goalkeeper Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) with just under three minutes to play.
Senior Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) and junior Kim Monteferante (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Lakeland) anchored the effort in front of Bancroft, and behind as well, each recording a defensive save on the day.
Washington held a 9-3 shot advantage in the first half and outshot the Devils, 14-6, in the match. The Shorewomen also forced 13 penalty corners while allowing just three on the defensive end.
Morgan Domanico made one save for Washington as they fall to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference. Bancroft made six saves for the Red Devils as they improve to 9-4 on the season and 5-2 in conference play.
The Red Devils return home to face Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday at 3:30 pm.
