(New Haven, Conn.) – The Dickinson women's squash team advanced to the semifinals of the College Squash Association, D-Division National Championships.
The #25-ranked Red Devils blanked #32 Haverford, 9-0, looking to claim the Epps Cup for the second time in just two years of existence. The Red Devils claimed the E-Division title in 2015.
First-year Hedvika Suchankova (Olomouc, Czech Republic/St. Michael's) led the charge with straight set win in the top flight, (11-2, 11-5, 11-3). Nicole DeLuca (Newtown Square, Pa./Baldwin School) battled her way to 3-0 decision in the second, winning (11-9, 11-8, 11-5).
Sophomore Stuart Lemay (Harwich Port, Mass./Westover) opened 11-4 and survived a 14-12 challenge in the second. She closed with a decisive 11-0 third set to sweep the match.
First-year Alanis Perez (New Haven, Conn./Canterbury School) went the distance to beat Isabel Angrew in five sets (10-12, 11-7, 11-9, 10-12, 11-4). Sarah Clothier (Bryn Mawr, Pa./The Shipley School) claimed a 3-1 decision and Meaghan Dashcund (South Hamilton, Mass./Phillips Exeter Academy) surrendered just 10 points in the sixth flight (11-4, 11-2, 11-4).
Sarah Murphy (Hamilton, Mass./Brooks School) survived a five-set marathon to keep the slate clean while Abbie Wingerd (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) and Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) had dominant wins at eight and nine.
Meghan Shippe (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park) added a 3-1 win in exhibition.
The Red Devils improve to 10-7 overall. They will face #28-ranked Connecticut College on Saturday evening at 6:00 pm. Connecticut advanced with a 6-3 win over Mount Holyoke College.
