Unbeaten Bowdoin Takes Two From Devils

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

(Winter Haven, Fla.) – The Dickinson baseball team dropped a double-header to Bowdoin College on Thursday as the Polar Bears jumped out to a 4-0 start to the season. Bowdoin claimed the opener, 10-5, and scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take game two, 4-3.

Dickinson struck first in game one, scoring a lone run in the second inning. Phil Werner (Potomac, Md./St. Andrew's) led-off with a single and came around to score on a double from first-year Stephen Sakowicz (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South).

The Polar Bears capitalized on a pair of hit batters and a Red Devil error to score four runs in the top of third. Dickinson countered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning as senior Ryan Dolan (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Germantown Academy) tripled to score Max Brown (Annapolis, Md./McDonogh School) and came in on a sacrifice fly from Matt Primavera (Erdenheim, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy).

Bowdoin came back to add two of their own in the fourth, stretching the margin to 6-3. A lead-off walk and a hit batter led to a four-run sixth inning for the Bears. Dickinson looked to answer again, but could only manufacture lone runs in the sixth and seventh for the final of 10-5.

The Red Devils took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game two as Werner singled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Rick Hopkins (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Holy Spirit). The Bears pulled even on a solo homerun by Peter Cimini in the bottom of the fourth.

Primavera drove in two runs with a double in the top of sixth to put Dickinson on top, 3-1. Bowdoin rallied with three straight RBI singles to overtake the Devils, 4-3.

Jake Band (Gaithersburg, Md./St. John's College) went 2-for-2 while Primavera and Werner each finished 2-for-3 in game two with Primavera picking up a pair of RBIs. Ben Rappaport (Wilton, Conn./St. Luke's) recorded seven strikeouts.

The Red Devils wrap up the week in Florida with a double-header on Friday. They are scheduled to face Fitchburg State with the first game starting at 9:30 am.
