Box Score (Haverford, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's lacrosse team came up short in a tight, back-and-forth battle at Haverford College on Sunday afternoon. Neither team was able to build even a two-goal lead until the 12:09 mark of the third quarter.
The teams traded goals to a 3-3 tie at the end of the first period. Long pole defenseman Patrick Finneran (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) tallied an assist, feeding Tucker Carney (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) at the 11:50 mark. Carney scored again to knot the game with 24 seconds remaining in the first.
Haverford struck first in the second period before Rob Kendall (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) tallied back-to-back goals to put Dickinson up, 5-4, with 3:38 remaining in the half.
The 'Fords countered with two goals in just 17 seconds to take a 6-5 advantage into the break.
Patrick Girard gave Haverford the game's first two-goal lead to open the second half. First-year Charlie DeMuth (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) traded goals with Rob McClallen and Garret Trucksess put the 'Fords up 9-6, with 3:41 to play in the third.
Senior Chris Menard (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) found the net with just 20 seconds on the clock to send the game into the fourth with the score at 9-7.
Junior Chase Phillips (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) scored off a John Lockwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) assist for the only goal of the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to one with 12:35 remaining in the game.
The Red Devils held a 7-4 shot advantage in the fourth but were unable to pull even.
Senior Nick Baxter (Newbury, Mass./Governor's) made 13 saves and controlled four ground balls. Carney added six GBs to his two goals while Ryan Campbell (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven) won six face-offs and grabbed three GBs.
Haverford improved to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial Conference while The Red Devils slip to 6-4 and 1-2 in the CC. Dickinson returns home to face Gettysburg College on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
