#9 Ranked Bullets Hold off Devils 9-4

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's lacrosse team turned in a solid performance but #9-ranked Gettysburg was able to post a 9-4 win on Wednesday afternoon at Biddle Field.

The Bullets struck first but the Red Devils answered with a goal from John Lockwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) to make it a 1-1 game with just over six minutes to play in the first quarter. Reed Barbe handed out an assist on the first goal and dished out two more to give the Bullets a 3-1 lead at the end of the period.

Gettysburg capitalized early in the second, scoring back-to-back extra-man goals, and Tommy Heller netted his second of the game to stretch the margin to 6-1.

Junior Tyler Llewellyn (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) finished an assist from Lockwood to break up the run at the 5:05 mark. Gettysburg tallied twice in final three minutes to hold an 8-2 advantage at the break.

The Red Devils took advantage of an extra-man opportunity to start the second half with senior Chris Menard (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) scoring off an assist from classmate Rob Kendall (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy), just 34 seconds into the period.

Gettysburg led 9-3 at the end of the third as Paul Werner finished the second assist of the game for Jameson Smith with 9:02 on the clock.

The Red Devils tallied the lone goal of the fourth with first-year Dylan Maher (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) scoring off an assist from Menard with 4:22 remaining in the game.

The Red Devils had chances, outshooting the Bullets 15-6 in the fourth quarter and 27-15 over the course of the second half.

Gettysburg goaltender Tim Brady made 13 saves on the day, adding three ground balls. Senior Nick Baxter (Newbury, Mass./Governor's) turned away 13 shots in the Red Devil nets, picking up a pair of GBs as well.

Sophomore Ryan Campbell (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven) won 9-of-13 face-offs and controlled five ground balls. Long pole Graham Parsons (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) caused four turnovers and picked up four GBs to anchor the defensive effort. Andy Grabis (Chestertown, Md./St. Andrew's) added two GBs and a pair of caused turnovers as well.

Gettysburg improves to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 6-5 overall and 1-3 in the CC. Dickinson is home again on Saturday, celebrating Red & White Day with a 3:00 face-off against Washington College.
