Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's lacrosse team broke open a close game in the third quarter to post a 15-7 victory over visiting Washington College on Senior Day, Saturday afternoon at Biddle Field.
The Shoremen had a strong start, jumping out to a 3-1 advantage. Tyler Powers struck first and handed out an assist to put Washington up, 2-0. First-year Dylan Maher (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) finished an assist from senior Chris Menard (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) to answer at the 11:38 mark.
After Washington made the score 3-1, the Red Devils strung together three straight to pull in front 4-3, at the end of the first quarter. Senior Rob Kendall (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) scored back-to-back goals to close out the period, netting the last with just one second on the clock.
Kevin Trapp scored the lone goal of a defensive second quarter to send the game into halftime, tied 4-4.
The Red Devils erupted out the break, taking control of the game with a 6-0 third quarter to lead, 10-4. First-year Deegan Beauchemin (Monroe, Conn./Newtown) started the run, followed by a Menard rip into the net with an assist from Kendall.
Sophomore Tucker Carney (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) handed out an assist and scored back-to-back goals to stretch the margin to 9-4. Kendall found the net in the final minute once again, to put the Devils up, 10-4.
Dickinson continued the rally, scoring the first four goals of the fourth quarter, led by a goal and assist from Will Trevenen (Montclair, N.J./Taft). Senior Connor Haab (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal) scored off a feed from classmate Greg Shildkrout (Dresher, Pa./Germantown Academy) to put the Devils up by 10, and countered a goal from Pat McManus to make the score, 15-5.
Brady O'Neill tallied once and had an assist as the Shoremen finished off the game with a pair of goals for the final of 15-7.
Menard led the attack with four assists and one goal while Kendall recorded a hat-trick and an assist on the day. Junior long pole Andy Grabis (Chestertown, Md./St. Andrew's) anchored the defensive effort with five ground balls. Sophomore Dane Huber (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) turned in a strong performance in the midfield, controlling four ground balls.
Senior Nick Baxter (Newbury, Mass./Governor's) made seven saves in the nets for Dickinson while Andrew Jones (Odenton, Md./Arundel) came on to make one stop.
Ben Flood made seven saves for Washington as they fall to 7-6 overall and 3-3 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils improve to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in the CC. Dickinson travels to Swarthmore College next Saturday for a 1:00 pm face-off.
