Box Score (Collegeville, Pa.) – The #17-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team tried to rally at Ursinus College on Saturday, but the Bears built and early lead and held on for a 14-10 decision.
The Red Devils capitalized on a penalty as John Lockwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) scored on an extra-man opportunity at the 9:53 mark.
The Bears rattled off five straight to lead 5-1 at the end of the first quarter. They tacked another in the opening minute of the second.
Tyler Llewellyn (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) netted back-to-back goals and first-year Dylan Maher (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) cut the deficit to 6-4 on an extra-man goal with an assist from Rob Kendall (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy), with 7:57 remaining in the half.
Peter DeSimone scored twice to give Ursinus an 8-4 advantage at halftime. Chris Menard (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) scored to open the second half, but Gerard Brown answered to keep the lead at four.
Tucker Carney (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) scored off an assist from Lockwood while the Devils were man-down before the Bears came back with three straight to hold a 12-6 lead at the end of the third quarter.
The Red Devils outscored the Bears, 4-2 in the final quarter but could not overcome the deficit. Maher scored at the 13:49 mark and Lockwood made the score, 13-8, with 4:48 to play. Menard scored two late goals for the final of 14-10.
Lockwood finished with two goals and three assists, adding three ground balls. Menard tallied three goals on the day. Graham Parsons (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) controlled four GBs and John Bower (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) caused a pair of turnovers. Nick Baxter (Newbury, Mass./Governor's) made 11 saves in the nets.
The Bears improve to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the CC. Dickinson travels to Haverford College next Saturday for a 3:00 pm face-off.
