(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's tennis team traveled to Franklin & Marshall for the regular season finale on Sunday afternoon. The teams were playing for home court advantage in the first round of the Centennial Conference playoffs with the winner earning the #4-seed.
The host Diplomats, ranked 11th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic South Region poll, took a 2-1 lead in doubles and went on to claim the match, 6-3.
The Red Devil men, who are ranked 18th in the Atlantic South Region, and the women's team will both travel to Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday for the first round of the CC Championships.
Sophomores Shawn Diniz (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) and Samuel Loring (New York, N.Y./Blair Academy) earned the doubles point, winning the second flight, 8-6.
Diniz held off Evan Drapeau (6-4, 6-3) in the sixth singles flight while junior Clark Chapman (Princeton, N.J./Montgomery) earned the other point with a (6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5)) win in the fourth flight.
Senior Joey Frank (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Boca Raton) returned to the line-up, battling at number one, but falling (6-4, 4-6, 6-4). He partnered with classmate Evan Davis (Westport, Conn./Staples) for another close setback in the second doubles flight, falling 8-6.
Steven Kaplan (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) had a close match in the second singles flight, dropping a 6-4, 6-4 decision. He joined Chapman in the top doubles position for another close decision of 8-5.
The teams will meet again in Lancaster on Wednesday afternoon.
