Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team took a 1-0 lead on #6-ranked Swarthmore College on Saturday, but the Garnet would tally a pair of second half goals to claim a 2-1 decision at Miller Memorial Field.
Sophomore Samantha Knapp (Washington, D.C./CESJDS) put the Red Devils on the board, scoring unassisted in the 16th minute.
The lead held throughout the first half, but Swarthmore would pull even in the 51st minute as Marin McCoy hit a strong shot off an assist from Caroline Khanna.
McCoy came through again, hitting another hard shot with just over 15 minutes remaining in regulation to put Swarthmore up, 2-1.
The Red Devils had chances in the final minutes but were unable to net the equalizer. First-year Rachel Lazris (Ellicott City, Md./Wilde Lake) broke into the attack and hit a hard shot that went just wide of the post. Classmate Eryn McDonald (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) had a great attempt on a free kick as well, but Sydney Hunter came away with a strong save for Swarthmore.
The Garnet held the advantage in shots, 24-9, while the Devils force four corners while allowing just two on the defensive end.
Hunter tallied six saves on the day as Swarthmore improves to 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in Centennial Conference play.
Junior Amanda Masterson (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) made some strong saves in the nets for Dickinson, making a great one-on-one stop, just inside the penalty area. She finished with 13 saves as the Red Devils slip to 4-2-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Dickinson is scheduled to travel to Messiah College on Wednesday for a 5:00 pm kick-off.
