(Cambridge, Mass.) – The #22-ranked Dickinson men's squash team suffered an 8-1 loss to the top-ranked club team in the nation, #19-ranked University of Virginia, on Friday at the College Squash Association Team Championships. The Red Devils are making their first appearance in the CSA (C-Division) Summers Cup.
Sophomore Abdelrahman Elsergany (Cairo, Egypt/Kent School, Conn.) earned the lone point for the Devils, overcoming an 11-4 setback in the first set to claim the top flight (4-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-5).
Classmate Cory Litman (Lower Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) went five sets in the fourth flight before falling (11-9, 9-11, 11-9, 7-11, 11-5). Harrison Mayo (Penn Valley, Pa./Harriton) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to pull even before suffering a heartbreaker in the number six spot (11-8, 11-3, 10-12, 8-11, 13-11).
Sophomore Hal Holappa (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) went four sets in the second flight while Vincent Warzecha (Chester Springs, Pa./Malvern Prep) suffered a (11-7, 11-5, 10-12, 11-6) decision in the seventh. Senior Charlie Fisher (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) went four sets in the ninth flight as well.
The Red Devils will face Colby College in the semifinals of the consolation round at 1:30 pm on Saturday.
