#7 Red Devils Survive Green Terror 9-8

Box Score

(Westminster, Md.) – The #7-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team survived a scare from the Green Terror, holding off McDaniel, 9-8, on Wednesday night.

Junior Tyler Strods (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) put the Devils on the board first, scoring in the opening minute.

The Green Terror responded with three straight goals before Tucker Carney (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) finished an assist from Jack O'Connell (Sands Point, N.Y./Westminster) cut the deficit to 3-2, with 3:05 to play in the first quarter.

McDaniel scored twice in the final 2:06 to lead, 5-2, at the end of the first. The Red Devils tallied the only two goals of the second quarter. Strods scored off an assist from senior Chase Phillips (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) and sophomore Charlie DeMuth (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) made a nice dodge and found the back of the net with just 12 seconds remaining in the half to make the score, 5-4 at the break.

Strods traded goals with Quinn Lykens and then fed sophomore Alex Hosker (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) for an extra-man goal to knot the game, 6-6, with 6:24 to play in the third.

McDaniel countered out of the face-off to quickly retake the lead at the 6:07 mark. The Red Devils tallied a pair of quick goals to pull in front, early in the fourth quarter.

Carney scored and then found Strods, just nine seconds later to put Dickinson in front, 8-7. Timothy McNichol tied the game once more with 9:53 to play.

The Red Devils capitalized on a well-executed settled offense as Strods found first-year Nick Goles (Monkton, Md./Loyola Blakefield) on the back post, who tucked way the game-winner with 2:14 on the clock.

Dickinson claimed possession and was able to run out the clock and secure the win to improve to 2-0 in the Centennial Conference.

Strods finished with four goals and two assists, adding three ground balls while Carney scored twice and handed out an assist. Nate Usich (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) caused two turnovers and controlled two GBs. Zach Blumenstein (Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Prep) picked-up three GBs.

Junior goaltender Andrew Jones (Odenton, Md./Arundel) made nine saves for the Red Devils.

Ryan Campbell (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven) won 9-of-11 face-offs while Austin Hurdle (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) won five as the Devils claimed 14-of-21 on the night.

Bryan Ruygrok made 12 saves for McDaniel as they slip to 5-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

The Red Devils improve to 7-1 on the season. They are on the road again on Saturday, traveling to Eastern University for a 1:00 pm face-off.
