#6 Red Devils Roll Past Swarthmore on Senior Day

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #6-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day with a dominant performance over visiting Swarthmore College, posting a 17-6 win at Biddle Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils had a great start, scoring the first six goals of the game to lead, 6-0, at the end of the first quarter. Sophomore Dylan Maher (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) led the charge with a pair of goals as five different Devils scored in the opening run.

Swarthmore looked to have some life in the second period, scoring three straight, including back-to-back goals from Cam Marsh.

Tucker Carney (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) finished an assist from Alex Hosker (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) at the end of the quarter to give the Devils a 7-3 advantage at the break.

The Red Devils came out of halftime fired up again. Sophomore John Lockwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) found the net and then Austin Hurdle (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) won the face-off and fed Carney for another, just eight seconds later, extending the margin to 9-3.

The Red Devils continued to play inspired, stretching the lead to 12-3, in the opening two minutes of the fourth. Senior Mike Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Berkshire) set up Charlie DeMuth (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) for a nice goal and then tallied back-to-back assists to make the score 16-4.

The Garnet tacked on a pair of late goals while senior Mike Cherry (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) made a beautiful interception and ripped the back of the net for the Devils' final tally of the day.

Maher finished with four goals and three ground balls while Tyler Strods (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) chipped in with a hat-trick.

The Red Devil long poles had a great day as Andy Grabis (Chestertown, Md./St. Andrew's) caused a pair of turnovers and picked up three GBs. Patrick Finneran (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) and Nate Usich (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) each controlled three GBs as well.

Hurdle won 11-of-17 face-offs and controlled six GBs to add to his assist. Ryan Campbell (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven) won 4-of-5 on the day.

The Red Devil man-down unit rose the challenge as well, stalling 4-of-5 extra-man opportunities. Junior goaltender Andrew Jones (Odenton, Md./Arundel) tallied six saves while first-year Cole Pellicano (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) came on to close things out.

The Red Devils improve to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Muhlenberg College next Saturday for a 12:00 pm face-off with the Mules.
