#6-Ranked Red Devils Hold Off Haverford

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #6-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead and held-off former assistant coach Brendan Dawson and Haverford College, 9-7, on Saturday afternoon.

Haverford struck first and countered a goal from Deegan Beauchemin (Monroe, Conn./Newtown) to take a 2-1 lead in the first quarter.

Junior Dylan Maher (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) tallied back-to-back extra-man goals and dished out an assist as the Red Devils pulled in front, 5-2, at the end of the first. Classmate Tucker Carney (Wallingford, Conn./Strath Haven) dished out three assists in the opening period as well.

A defensive struggle in the second saw just three goals as Maher went back-to-back for the second time before Mitch Hagan found the net in the final minute to make the score, 7-3, at the break.

The 'Fords capitalized on a Dickinson penalty in the third quarter and scored three straight goals to cut the deficit to 7-6. First-year Steve Ganelin (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad) finished an assist from Brodie Phillips (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) to give the Devils an 8-6 cushion, heading into the fourth quarter.

Haverford pulled within one at the 12:39 mark as Ben Frost netted his second of the game. Sophomore Tyler Strods (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) gave the Devils a huge insurance goal and the Red Devil defense closed things out over the final 3:49 of the game.

Andy Grabis (Chestertown, Md./St. Andrew's) anchored a solid defensive effort with four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Nate Usich (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) had another strong outing with three GBs and a pair of takeaways.

Ryan Campbell (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven) won 10-of-16 face-offs and controlled six ground balls on the day.

Maher led the attack with four goals while Carney finished with his hat-trick of assists. Junior goaltender Andrew Jones (Odenton, Md./Arundel) made 12 saves in the nets for Dickinson.

Haverford slip to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial Conference. The #6-ranked Red Devils improve to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play. They travel to Gettysburg College on Wednesday for a 3:30 pm face-off.
