Box Score (Sparks, Md.) – The #13-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team opened the 2018 season with a 15-9 win over St. Mary's College of Maryland, at the U.S. Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Maryland on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils had a strong start as four different players found the net in the opening quarter. Senior Mitchell Andres (East Lyme, Conn./Berkshire) and Tyler Strods (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) led the initial charge with Strods scoring twice and handing out an assist while Andres put the Devils up, 5-0, and dished out two assists.
Senior Dylan Maher (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) sandwiched a pair of goals around St. Mary's first goal of the game to make the score, 7-1, with just over 10 minutes to play in the half.
First-year long pole Bobby Barroll (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) had a great start to his collegiate career, dishing out a pair of assists before the break.
Alex Hosker (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) finished an assist from Tucker Carney (Wallingford, Pa./Strathaven) on an extra-man opportunity as Dickinson took an 8-4 advantage into halftime.
Strods fed Maher for the hat-trick to start the second half. Maher struck again to give the Devils an 11-5 lead before the Seahawks capitalized on a pair of extra-man opportunities to close the gap to 11-7.
Carney countered on a man-up for Dickinson, scoring off an assist from Strods to close out the period.
Brodie Phillips (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) tallied his third goal of the game and handed out his second assist as Dickinson outscored the Seahawks, 4-3, in fourth for the final of 15-9.
Maher finished with four goals and one assist while Strods added three goals and four assists on the afternoon. Carney tallied a hat-trick as well, adding an assist.
Junior Nate Usich (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) caused four turnovers and picked up three ground balls. Senior goaltender Andrew Jones (Odenton, Md./Arundel) made three saves.
Ross Snodderly made 15 saves for St. Mary's as they fall to 1-1 on the season.
The Red Devils improve to 1-0 and will return home to face Montclair State University, next Saturday at 2:00 pm.
