Goles Gets Goals to Lead #9 Devils Past Terror

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #9-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team put in a full night's work to improve to 2-0 in the Centennial Conference with a 14-8 win over visiting McDaniel College on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils opened up a 4-1 lead in the first quarter but were unable to gain some real separation until the third quarter.

Senior Tucker Carney (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) handed out three assists in the opening quarter, finding three different players to get the Red Devils started. Sophomore Nick Goles (Monkton, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) struck first and scored twice in the opening run.

The Green Terror put a goal on the board at the end of the first period and capitalized on an extra-man opportunity to net an early tally to start the second, cutting the deficit to 4-2.

Goles returned the favor, feeding Brodie Phillips (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) as Dickinson added three in the period to take a 6-3 advantage into halftime.

Goles added an assist to start the second half as well, finding Jack O'Connell (Sands Point, N.Y./Westminster) just 12 seconds into the third quarter. Carney tallied another assist on an extra-man opportunity, connecting with Corey Richards (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) at the 11:54 mark.

The Red Devils outscored the Terror, 7-1 in the third to extend the lead to 13-4. Goles and O'Connell each struck twice and had an assist while Carney remained generous, dishing out three assists in the third as well.

Tyler Strods (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) scored his third of the game, finishing an assist from Connor Ringwalt (Springfield, Pa./Episcopal Academy) to break up a four-goal effort by McDaniel in the fourth quarter.

Carney handed out six assists on the night to post the third-best single game total in program history while adding four ground balls. Goles tallied four goals and two assists with Strods adding a hat-trick and O'Connell going 2-1.

Patrick Finneran (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) anchored an outstanding defensive effort that held the Green Terror to just three shots in the first quarter and two in the third. Nate Usich (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) controlled seven GBs in the midfield.

Senior Ryan Campbell (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven) controlled 16-of-17 face-offs and picked up nine ground balls. Sophomore goaltender Cole Pellicano (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made seven saves in the nets.

Jackson Reilly led the Green Terror (6-4, 1-1 CC) with three goals and one assist while sophomore goaltender Jakob Katzen finished with 11 saves.

The Red Devils improve to 7-2 overall. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Eastern University at 12:00 pm.
