Red Devils Rally Past Mules in 5-4 Thriller

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team rallied past Muhlenberg to avenge Thursday night's 1-0 setback, overtaking the Mules in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 5-4 victory on Friday afternoon.

The Red Devils pushed across a run in the fourth as Alex Jacobson (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) hit a one-out triple and scored on a single from David Farnham (Atherton, Calif./Menlo School).

Dickinson tacked on two more in the fifth. Brandon Pell (Delran, N.J./Penn Charter) walked, stole second and moved to third on a Max Brown (Annapolis, Md./McDonogh) single. Pell came in to score as Robbie Thompson (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) reached on an error as he tried to sacrifice bunt, and Brown moved all the way to third.

Ben Carter (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) followed up with a single to score Brown, extending the lead to 3-0.

Muhlenberg put together a rally in the sixth, scoring four runs behind doubles from Kenny Fried and Sam Arnold.

Thompson and Carter doubled in the seventh to pull the Devils even. The defense held behind a strong pitching performance from first-year Connor Langan (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich).

Senior Jonathan Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill./Berkshire School) tripled to start the ninth and came across with the game-winning run on a wild pitch as the Red Devils pulled in front, 5-4.

They weren't quite out of the woods yet as the Mules looked to extend the game, loading the bases in the ninth. Eric Reitmeyer smacked a line drive up the middle but Brown laid out with a diving catch to end the game.

Langan would get credit for the win with two strong innings before Reid Collins (West Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) came on to earn his fourth save of the season. Sophomore Tommy Koide (Morristown, N.J./West Morris Mendham) went 5.1 innings in the start, scattering three hits and allowing just one run.

The Red Devils hand the Mules their first conference loss (3-1) as they improve to 6-12 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Dickinson is back in action on Saturday afternoon, hosting a double-header with Swarthmore College at 12:30 pm on MacPhail Field.
