Red Devils Have Strong Start at CC Championships

(Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson men and women's track & field teams opened competition at the 2018 Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships at Ursinus College. The Red Devil men jumped out to first place in the team standings while the women are currently second behind Johns Hopkins.

Senior Devin Glasson (Canton, Conn./Canton) placed second in the hammer throw with a toss of 45.80 meters. Robert Pearl (Sea Ranch Lakes, Fla./Pine Crest) was ninth with a throw of 35.53 meters and Francisco Villarreal (Carson, Calif./Carson) was in the top 20 as well.

The Red Devils had a strong showing in the pole vault, earning big points with a one-two finish. First-year Kacper Rzempoluch (Princeton, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro North) claimed the gold medal with a height of 4.26 meters (13'-11.75") while sophomore Adam Gamber (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) equaled the height of Rzempoluch, claiming second in the tie-break when matching jumps.

Bryce Descavish (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) was fourth in the 10,000 meters, posting a time of 32.22.10.

Sofia Canning (Portland, Maine/Waynflete) ran to silver in the 10,000 meters, clocking a time of 38.14.31 while Tessa Cassidy (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) finished third with a mark of 39.22.72.

Katie Montgomery (Vienna, Va./McLean) added fifth place points while sophomore Sarah House (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) crossed the line seventh.

Mary Smith (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) placed sixth in the hammer throw, going 34.94 meters.

Emily Messer (Mason, N.H./Lawrence Academy) is ninth in the heptathlon, placing sixth in the shot put event, seventh in the 100 meter hurdles and ninth in the 200 meter dash and the high jump.

The Red Devils return to competition on Saturday and the championships conclude on Sunday.
