Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team split its Centennial Conference opener on Saturday as Ursinus College claimed the opener, 5-1, before the Red Devils rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the nightcap, 11-10.

The Bears put a run on the board in the top of the fourth of game one as Alex Mumme drew a one-out walk and moved to third on a pair of wild pitches. He came across on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jon Moldoff.

The Bears used a walk and single to set up a two-run double from Dom Fiorentino to stretch the lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth.

Brian Reilly (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) drew a lead-off walk and would come around to score on a hard-hit single from Ben Carter (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) to put the Red Devils on the board in the bottom half of the inning.

Will Peifer doubled in run and Moldoff tallied his second RBI of the day with a single to center to make the score 5-1.

Reilly blasted a double to the wall with one out in the ninth, but the Red Devils were unable to dig into the lead.

Nick DeFeo improved to 2-0 on the season, scattering six hits and surrendering just one walk.

Teddy Reddington (Reston, Va./Flint Hill) had a solid outing in the loss, going 7.1 innings and recording five strikeouts while allowing just six hits as well. Ethan Collins (Elmer, N.J./Arthur P. Schalick) came on in relief, booking three strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work.

Volpe went 2-for-4 to lead the Red Devils at the plate.

In game two, Fiorentino put the Bears on the board with a two-out solo shot over the right field wall in the top of the third inning. They used a pair of errors and a two-RBI single from Moldoff to stretch the lead to 3-0.

The Red Devils answered to take a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth. A pair of errors set the stage for an RBI single from Reilly. Max Matilsky (Bernardsville, N.J./Morristown-Beard) drove in two runs with a double and then came around to put the Devils up on a single from senior Max Brown (Annapolis, Md./McDonogh).

The lead was short-lived as Fioretino doubled and Mumme hit a two-run homer to put Ursinus back in front, 5-4, in the fifth.

Brendan Pell (Delran, N.J./Penn Charter) doubled in the bottom of the fifth and tied the game on a single from Alex Cohen (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn Charter).

The Bears took a 7-5 lead on a two-RBI single from Fiorentino in the sixth. The Red Devils countered once again as Brown and Delsandro drew two-out walks and Carter tripled down the right field line to plate two runs and knot the game 7-7.

The Bears slipped back in front in the seventh, using a walk and two singles for an 8-7 lead. They tacked on two in the ninth as Mumme walked and Will Peifer went over the wall in right field.

Ursinus loaded the bases in the top of the ninth but Tommy Koide (Morristown, N.J./West Morris Mendham) worked his way out of it to keep the score at 10-7.

Pat Davis (New Providence, N.J./Morristown-Beard) led-off the ninth with a pinch-hit single and Tom Ganaway (Westfield, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) came all the way around to score on a pair of Ursinus errors. Cohen followed up with an RBI single to scored Carter, who reached on one of the errors.

The Devils loaded the bases as Volpe and Reilly reached on walks. Matilsky would come through, driving a single into the gap in right center to bring home two runs for the walk-off victory.

Matilsky finished with four RBIs, going 2-for-5 in the nightcap while Cohen tallied two hits and two RBI. Jake Geddes (Darien, Conn./Darien) went 5.1 innings in the start with Connor Langan (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) coming on for two innings of relief. Koide battled through the final 1.2 innings to earn the win and improve to 2-0 on the year.
