#8 Bullets Hold Off #14 Red Devils 11-8

(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The #14-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team looked to rally late, but couldn't catch #8-ranked Gettysburg, falling 11-8, on Wednesday afternoon.

First-year Ryan Schaffer (West Caldwell, N.J./Caldwell) scored the only goal of the first quarter, finishing an assist from John Lockwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) to five the Red Devils a 1-0 lead at the first break.

The Bullets answered in the second before Lockwood dished out his second assist of the game, feeding Joel Mayo (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Berkshire School) to make the score 2-1.

Gettysburg answered with back-to-back goals to take a 3-2 advantage at halftime.

The Bullets came out of the break and tallied three straight to pull in front, 6-2. Lockwood fed Jack O'Connell (Sands Point, N.Y./Westminster) to break up the run, but the Bullets would come back to net a pair to stretch the margin to 8-3.

Nick Goles (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) found the net and Lockwood added an unassisted goal to pull the Red Devils to within three at 8-5, with just over two minutes to play in the third.

Jack Harvey scored with four seconds remaining in the quarter for a 9-5 advantage.

Goles, O'Connell and Lockwood would find the net in the fourth, but the Bullets were able to add two for the final of 11-8.

Lockwood led the Red Devils with two goals and three assists while Goles finished with two goals and one assist and O'Connell scored twice.

Bobby Hartwick (Brookeville, Md./Georgetown Prep) won 11-of-18 face-offs and controlled seven ground balls. Junior goaltender Cole Pellicano (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made eight saves and picked up four GBs.

Senior Nate Usich (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) forced three turnovers and picked up three GBs. Teddy Macfarlane (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) tallied three GBs and forced a turnover as well.

The Red Devils slip to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Swarthmore College on Saturday at 12:00 pm.
