Big Bats Lead Red Devils Past Bullets 17-10

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team struck early and continued to build on the lead throughout the game, sweeping the series with Gettysburg College with a 17-10 victory on Friday afternoon.

Senior Ben Carter (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) had a great outing, coming just a homerun short of hitting for the cycle. He went 4-for-5 on the day, driving in three runs, scoring twice and drawing a walk. He tallied two singles, a double and a triple.

Max Brown (Annapolis, Md./McDonogh School) became the second Red Devil this week to record the 100th hit of his career, driving one through in the fourth. Carter reached the century mark in Tuesday's win at Gettysburg.

Carter led-off the first with a triple and immediately scored on a single from Brendan Pell (Delran, N.J./Penn Charter) to put the Red Devils on the board. Max Matilsky (Bernardsville, N.J./Morristown-Beard) doubled to make the score 2-0 at the end of the inning.

The Bullets pushed across two in the third to briefly tie the game, but Dickinson would counter with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Carter and Pell led-off with back-to-back singles and moved around on an error on a sacrifice bunt from Alex Jacobson (Wilton, Conn./Wilton).

Alex Cohen (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn Charter) and Matilsky each drove in a run to give the Devils a 5-2 advantage.

Brown tallied his 100th-career hit and scored on a double from Carter for a lone run in the fourth inning.

The Red Devils erupted with five runs in the fifth inning to blow the game open 11-2. The Red Devils got singles from Cohen, Brown and Brian Reilly (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) and capitalized on a three Bullet errors in the inning.

Gettysburg scored a pair in the top of the sixth before the Red Devils answered with four as Chris Delsandro (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) doubled in a pair and Carter tallied two more RBI with a single.

The Bullets managed three runs in the seventh and eighth innings while the Red Devils tacked on two more in the bottom of the seventh for the final of 17-10.

Matilsky had a big day as well, going 3-for-5 with three RBI while Pell finished 3-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored. Brown scored three times on two hits while Delsandro crossed the plate twice and tallied two RBI. Joey Volpe (Wall, N.J./St. Rose) and Reilly each scored twice and drew a pair of walks.

Teddy Reddington (Reston, Va./Flint Hill) earned the win with a seven-inning effort while Connor Langan (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) came on in relief and Anthony Francioso (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton East) closed in the ninth.

The Red Devils improve to 19-7 overall and 6-2 in the Centennial Conference. They are on the road tomorrow for a key conference double-header at Washington College.
