O'Connell Nets Ninth Hat-Trick in Red Devil Win

(Allentown, Pa.) – The #14-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team jumped out early and posted a 14-9 win at Muhlenberg College on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils opened up a 4-0 lead in the opening three minutes behind a pair of goals and an assist from senior Jack O'Connell (Sands Point, N.Y./Westminster).

Muhlenberg broke up the run before senior John Lockwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) tallied back-to-back goals to put Dickinson in front, 6-1, with 8:03 remaining in the first quarter.

The Mules struck again, but the Red Devils added two more goals to lead 8-2 at the end of one. Lockwood tallied his second assist, finding Connor Ringwalt (Springfield, Pa./Episcopal Academy) and O'Connell struck again with a dish from Max Menkes (Potomac, Md./Bullis).

Muhlenberg closed the gap in the second, outscoring the Red Devils 3-1. Brodie Phillips (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) returned to the line-up and finished an assist from Nick Goles (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) to give the Red Devils a 9-5 advantage at the break.

Goles scored twice in the third and Lockwood found the net for the third time on the day as the Dickinson matched the Mules to make the score 12-8 at the end of the period.

Muhlenberg cut the margin to three at the midpoint of the fourth quarter. First-year Tucker Booth (Timonium, Md./Boys' Latin) scored at the five-minute mark and Lockwood struck again for the final of 14-9.

Lockwood finished with four goals and two assists while O'Connell tallied his ninth hat-trick hat-trick of the season with three goals and one assist. Goles added two goals and two assists while Phillips finished 2-1 on the day.

Senior Bobby Hartwick (Brookeville, Md./Georgetown Prep) dominated on face-offs, winning 21-of-27 and controlling 14 ground balls. Long pole midfielder Nate Usich (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) tallied five ground balls and forced four turnovers.

Junior Cole Pellicano (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made 10 saves in the nets for Dickinson.

The Red Devils improve to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in the Centennial Conference. They return home on Wednesday to host Franklin & Marshall at 7:00 pm.
