Red Devils Come Out on Top at Gettysburg 7-6

Box Score

(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team returned to the win column, claiming a 7-6 victory at Gettysburg College on Tuesday afternoon, improving to 18-6 overall and 5-2 in the Centennial Conference.

The Red Devils came out on top of a back-and-forth affair, working their way past the Bullets with a run in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Gettysburg led early, scoring once in the first and twice in the second. The Red Devils tied the game in the top of fourth, plating three runs in the top half of the inning.

Alex Cohen (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn Charter) singled and stole second and Brian Reilly (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) reached on a two-out walk to set up three straight RBI singles.

Max Brown (Annapolis, Md./McDonogh School) and Chris Delsandro (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) went through the left side and Ben Carter (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) roped one to center field, knotting the game, 3-3.

That was short-lived as the Bullets strung together three straight singles to retake the lead in the bottom half of the inning.

Brendan Pell (Delran, N.J./Penn Charter) and Alex Jacobson (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) reached on singles in the fifth to set up and RBI for Cohen. The Bullets took advantage of some defensive miscues to plate a pair of unearned runs to lead, 6-4.

The Devils hit well in the sixth, resulting in an RBI from Jacobson to score Carter to cut the deficit to one.

Brown came through big again in the seven, launching a double to score Reilly and tie the game. Delsandro got aboard on a fielder's choice and Carter reached on a crucial error that could have ended the inning.

Both Delsandro and Carter stole second and Delsandro came in on a wild pitch to put Dickinson up, 7-6.

Tommy Koide (Morristown, N.J./West Morris Mendham) came on in the sixth and closed the door on the Bullets to earn the win. He went four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out six.

Jacobson went 3-for-6 and Brown finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. Carter reached the century mark, recording his 100th career hit. Carter, Cohen and Delsandro each tallied two hits while Cohen drew a pair of walks. Reilly was walked four times on the day, scoring twice.

The Red Devils return home to face Shenandoah University on Wednesday at 3:30 pm.
