#8 Gettysburg Holds Off #15 Red Devils in CC Semifinal

(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The #15-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team made a great run but fell at #8-ranked Gettysburg in semifinals of the Centennial Conference Lacrosse Championship on Wednesday.

The teams traded goals throughout the first quarter with Gettysburg holding a 4-3 advantage at the end of the period.

The Bullets stretched the lead to 7-3 to start the second but the Red Devils would answer with three straight goals in a span of just 34 seconds to cut the deficit to 7-6 at halftime.

Senior Jack O'Connell (Sands Point, N.Y./Westminster) scored his fourth goal of the game to open the fourth quarter and tie the game at 7-7.

The Bullets capitalized with a pair of extra-man goals to extend the lead back to two. Senior Brodie Phillips (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) scored back-to-back goals and O'Connell added another as John Lockwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) handed out two assists to put Dickinson on top, 10-9, with 4:01 remaining in the third quarter.

Gettysburg tallied four straight to close out the quarter and added another to start to fourth, holding a 14-10 advantage.

O'Connell finished an assist from Phillips and Michael McCormick scored for the Bullets to make the score, 15-11, with just over four minutes to play.

The Red Devils kept coming as Alex Hosker (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) found the net and Phillips fed Nick Goles (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) for the final of 15-13.

O'Connell had another huge afternoon, finished with six goals and one assist. Phillips tallied three goals and two assists while Lockwood scored once and dished out three assists. Joel Mayo (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Berkshire) handed out a pair of assists. Goles scored twice and picked up four ground balls.

Junior goaltender Cole Pellicano (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made 20 saves on the afternoon while long pole midfielder Nate Usich (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) added six GBs.

Bobby Hartwick (Brookeville, Md./Georgetown Prep) won 7-of-14 face-offs and added four GBs. Usich went 1-for-2 on face-offs and Austin Hurdle (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) won 8-of-14 on the day.

The Red Devils move to 11-6 overall and will look for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
