(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #25-ranked Dickinson men's squash team had a strong start at their home Invitational on Saturday, posting a 9-0 win over Haverford before suffering an 9-0 setback to #13-ranked Franklin & Marshall to finish in second. F&M and Haverford each posted a win over Johns Hopkins while the Diplomats went 2-0 with another decision over the 'Fords.
The Red Devils opened with Haverford and Osuman Imoro (New Haven, Conn./Trinity Pawling) led the way, going (11-1, 11-7, 11-1) in the fifth. The Red Devils celebrated their four seniors and Alex Wattles (Millburn, N.Y./Millburn) responded with a strong win in the second flight, (11-7, 11-3, 11-8).
Senior Abdelrahman Elsergany (Cairo, Egypt/Kent School, Conn.) claimed the top-flight (11-6, 11-2, 8-11, 11-9) and classmate Tanay Murdia (Fatuh) won the third flight in straight sets (11-8, 11-8, 11-9).
Senior Graham Henderson (Greenwich, Conn./The King School) grabbed a straight set win as well, going (11-4, 11-9, 11-4) in the sixth.
Murdia won the opening set against F&M but suffered a 3-1 setback while Kobe Fleming (Whitby, New Zealand) battled through a tough five-set match, falling (13-15, 11-1, 11-4, 9-11, 11-4).
Hussien Eldesouky (Cairo, Egypt/Berkshire School, Mass.) played well in a setback in the seventh (11-6, 12-10, 11-7) while Ben Gemma (Barrington, R.I./Moses Brown) went (11-7, 15-13, 11-7).
The Red Devils move to 6-13 on the season. They travel to the College Squash Association Team Championships in Boston on February 28.
