(Washington, D.C.) – The #23-ranked Dickinson women's squash team suffered a pair of setbacks on day one of the Mid-Atlantic State Championships, hosted by George Washington University, on Friday.
The Red Devils fell to #18-ranked Franklin & Marshall in the opening match and dropped a decision to #8-ranked Drexel University in the nightcap.
The Red Devils have been forced to adjust the line-up with an injury to top-flight sophomore Courtney Trail (Palmerston, N.Z./Palmerston North Girls School).
In the first match Eloise Nimoityn (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal) went (5-11, 2-11, 6-11), playing up a flight in the top spot while Aya Sobhy (Stroudsburg, Pa./Blair Academy) put up a challenge at number three (7-11, 9-11, 5-11).
Senior Jaime Leigh Edghill (Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago/Holy Name) battled with a strong second set in the fourth flight, falling (11-3, 12-10, 11-2).
First-year Doxey Loupassi (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine's) looked to rally with a strong third set, but fell (11-1, 11-5, 11-8).
Drexel lived up to its ranking, sweeping the Red Devils to finish 2-0 on the day, topping host George Washington, 8-1.
The Red Devils return to action on Saturday with another tough test, facing the #10-ranked University of Virginia at 1:00 pm.
