Box Score 2 (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team swept a double-header from visiting Juniata College in the home opener on Sunday. The Red Devils rallied from behind in both games, claiming the opener 4-2 and taking the nightcap, 2-1.
Juniata loaded the bases and scored on a fielder's choice as the Red Devils were unable to close out the second inning with a double play.
The Eagles added another run in the third, loading the bases for an RBI walk from Michael Warren.
Juniata went to the bullpen in the fifth and the Red Devils came alive with four runs on four hits. Cole Benner (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) led-off the inning with a single and came in on a single from Pat Harrington (Long Valley, N.J./Delbarton).
Brian Reilly (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) added a two-RBI single and Brendan Pell (Delran, N.J./Penn Charter) singled down the left field line to drive in Harrington and put the Red Devils on top 2-0.
The Red Devils combined for six hits in the opener. Sophomore Beau Dana (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) earned the win on the hill, allowing five hits and one walk while recording seven strikeouts.
Peyton Fox (York, Pa./Dallastown) came on in relief and earned the save, recording three strikeouts in a one-hit effort.
The Red Devils pushed a run across in the bottom of the first inning of game two. Tom Gannaway (Westfield, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) reached on an error, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. He came in to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Max Matilsky (Bernardsville, N.J./Morristown-Beard).
The Eagles tied the game in the top of the second as Isaac Maclay was hit by a pitch and worked his way to third before coming in to score on a passed ball.
The Red Devils plated the game-winning the bottom of the fifth. Pell drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Pat Davis (New Providence, N.J./Morristown-Beard). That set the stage for an RBI double from Joey Volpe (Wall, N.J./Rose) to put Dickinson back in front, 2-1.
Junior Jake Geddes (Darien, Conn./Darien) came on in relief and earned the win to improve to 2-0 on the season. He scattered three hits over 5.2 innings while booking five strikeouts.
Mark Cysterski suffered the loss for Juniata, despite allowing just two hits in the opening 4.1 innings.
The Red Devils improve to 3-3 on the season. They are scheduled to travel to Shenandoah University on Tuesday for a 3:30 pm start.
