Red Devils Top Mules 11-10 in Four-Overtime Thriller

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's lacrosse team rallied from a 7-3 halftime deficit to overtake visiting Muhlenberg, 11-10, in four overtimes on Saturday afternoon.

Will Farrell (Bethesda, Md./Salisbury School) and Tucker Booth (Timonium, Md./Boys' Latin) scored in the first quarter to keep the Red Devils even at 2-2.

After Sascha Gannon (Lexington, Mass./Belmont Hill) gave Dickinson a 3-2 advantage, the Mules answered with five straight to pull in front, 7-3, at the break. Gannon scored to open the second half and then fed Booth to cut the margin to 7-5 at the 9:44 mark.

Muhlenberg capitalized on an extra-man opportunity Booth and Matt Donnelly (Frenchtown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) scored back-to-back in a span of just 19 seconds to pull the Devils within a goal, 8-7. Wyatt Malia struck twice to end the third period with the Mules in front, 10-7.

Jake Giotto (Pittsburgh, Pa./Quaker Valley) found the net early in the fourth before Muhlenberg kept the hosts in check until the final minutes. First-year Colin Kovacs (Rye, N.Y./Woodberry Forest) dished an assist to Booth with 2:22 remaining in regulation and Farrell finished an assist from Giotto at the 1:10 mark to send the game into overtime.

The teams went scoreless through the first three overtimes. Muhlenberg had a chance in the fourth extra frame before Dickinson claimed possession and Booth tallied the game-winner with two minutes on the clock.

Booth led the attack with five goals on the afternoon while Farrell and Gannon each added two goals and an assist. Giotto tallied a goal and two assists as well.

Senior goalkeeper Stroud Corr (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) finished with 13 saves on the day while John McKee (Virginia Beach, Va./Episcopal) won 13-of-26 face-offs and picked up a pair of ground balls. Teddy Macfarlane (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) forced two turnovers and had two ground balls while Peter O'Sullivan (New Canaan, Conn./Avon Old Farms) caused three turnovers and Thomas Harry (Troy, Pa./St. Anne's Belfield) picked up three GBs. Bobby Barroll (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School) added four GBs on the day.

The Red Devils improve to 2-0 on the season. They are home again next Saturday, hosting Gettysburg College at 3:00 pm.
