CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Dickinson field hockey team had their four-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon as the Washington College Shorewomen picked up a 3-1 win at Kirby Stadium to wrap up the regular season.
Washington had the only three shots of the first period with Kyra Heap and Samantha McMahon unable to test DC goalie
Saige Stevens, before Jillian Brejnik scored an unassisted goal with eight-seconds left in the frame to take a 1-0 lead to the second.Â
The Red and White flipped the script in the second as just 33-ticks into the quarter
Sammi Moonay recorded the Devils first shot and had it knocked away by Washington goalie Ava Rivera.
Morgan Yandow-Harding was also denied by Rivera in the 22nd-minute, prior to
Abby Marthins sliding an offering beyond the reach of Rivera to knot things at 1-1 heading to halftime.
The Shorewomen reclaimed the lead with 3:47 off the clock in the third when Julianna Sterling beat Stevens. The home side tried to add another one to their advantage in the 40th-minute, but Stevens was up to the task against Anna Harrington. She would then knock away an offering from Kat Esposito at the 41:51 mark. However, Esposito got revenge 20-seconds later as she fired a shot to the back of the cage for the 3-1 edge going to the fourth.
Dickinson applied the pressure early in the fourth as Yandow-Harding had a shot saved by Rivera, before
Emma Snyder put the rebound attempt right back into the goalie's pads to hold the margin at 3-1. Stevens would record her final save of her Red Devil career with 52:55 off the clock as she beat away a shot by Brejnik. The Red and White tried to cut one off the deficit with just under two minutes left, but the shot by Marthins was swept off the line by Jules Weglarz to preserve the 3-1 final.
