Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. - First-year Matt Thurston netted four goals as the No. 17 Dickinson men's lacrosse rolled past the visiting Susquehanna University River Hawks by a final of 16-5 on Wednesday night at Biddle Field.
It did not take the Red Devils long to find the back of the net as Thurston ripped the net behind Jozef Korpics just 23-seconds in. Susquehanna tried to answer back immediately from Jack Gaillard, but he went well wide of Chris Brandau between the pipes. Dickinson extended the lead to 3-0 just over a minute later when Lee Dunn finished off a nice dish by Tucker Booth and Owen Porter buried the rock. The Red and White kept the pressure up with Will Farrell, Ethan Gess, James Isaacson, Skyler Schluter, Porter, and Thurston all missed the net over the next couple of minutes. However, Thurston made sure he did not miss the mark again as he buried the rock two more times to make it 5-0 after one.
Dickinson stretched the lead to 6-0 just over a minute into the second when Porter beat Korpics. Susquehanna finally dented Brandau at the 3:33 mark when Sean Yamada found Brennan Lorence for the goal. The good feelings would not last long for the River Hawks as Thurston setup Schluter to make it 7-1 with five minutes off the clock. The next two minutes saw Dickinson record four shots before Thurston found the back of the net once again. Each team scored one more time the remainder of the half with Booth tallying for the Red and White while Lorence added another one for the guests sending the game to the third at 9-2.
The Devils came out firing to start the third with Cam Battisti, Sam Campbell, Jake Giotto, and Thurston all blasting shots at Korpics inside the opening four minutes. Isaacson brought the Devils to double-digits at the 4:13 mark and then just over a minute later it went to 11-2 courtesy of Campbell. Korpics was called into action again when Campbell and Isaacson put shots towards the cage. Isaacson pushed the margin to 12-2 with just under six minutes remaining, before the lead extended to 13-2, 32-seconds later with Porter moving the twine. Dickinson continued to pour it on with Sascha Gannon and Isaacson beating Korpics. Victor Simone added another one for the visitors with 1:11 left to make it 15-3 through 45 minutes.
Michael Crawford, Colin Kovacs, Carter Wilmot, and Dunn all tried to add onto the scoring parade for the Red and White however new keeper Augie Granatelli held his ground for Susquehanna. The River Hawks would test Devils keeper Patrick Scarborough twice, but he was up to the task turning away Jake Turner and Gaillard. After the visitors were assessed two separate penalties to result in a two-man advantage for the Devils Booth rippled the net for the last marker of the night for DC as that made it 16-3. Susquehanna netted the final two goals of the night with Sean Carothers and Lorence scoring to setup the 16-5 final.
