Devils Knock Off Eagles For Fourth Straight Win

Box Score

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Dickinson baseball team used five pitchers and got two RBIs each from Cole Hare, Colin Jones, and Andrew Mazzone en route to a 7-3 non-conference win over Juniata College on Tuesday afternoon at Langdon Goodale Field.

Pitching Decision

W - Alex Bouchard (1-0) | L - Zachary Malone (1-1)

Inside the Game

Dickinson would take a 2-0 lead just three batters into the game as Kenny Tagliareni was hit by the offering from Malone followed by a single by Lukas Atsalis that plated the runner after the right-fielder misplayed the ball. The next man up was Mazzone who smashed a double to left-center to drive in Atsalis. Malone then settled down to retire the next three hitters. Matt Spind gave one back in the home-half with Isaac Maclay producing a one-out double before Joey Woodrow came up with a sac fly. Michael Warren went down on strikes to end the rally.

A quiet top-half of the second for the Devils brought the Eagles to the plate trying to tie the game. With one away, Roberto Barranca stepped to the dish and was plunked by Spind. That sent up Corey Daniels and with him in the box the hosts would tie the score as Barranca swiped second, followed by two consecutive balks let him cross. Juniata then took the lead for the first time in the ensuing inning as a pair of walks and a single for Woodrow filled the bags for Jake Swank. He would draw a walk to make it 3-2 birds. Spind got out of further trouble with a pop-up by Barranca.

Bouchard took over on the mound for the Red and White in the bottom of the fourth and worked a flawless one-two-three frame. A leadoff walk to Tagliareni led to the tying run coming home when Mazzone tripled down right-field line to tie the score. That spelled the end of the day for Malone as southpaw Harrison Leister took over at pitcher. He would immediately watch the Devils take the lead when Hare smashed a single through the left side. After Luke Jackson reached on fielder's choice Jones came up with a sac fly to plate Hare and make it 5-3 through five.

The rest of the scoring happened in the seventh as Mazzone began the frame by being hit by the pitch which was followed up by an RBI double to deep right-center for Hare. A Jackson flyout moved the runner 90-feet, before a fielder's choice by Jones was enough to plate the runner for the 7-3 advantage. Dickinson pitching would dominate the rest of the game with the trio of Joey Sangiuolo, Peyton Fox, and Beau Dana allowing just one hit over the final three frames to lockdown the victory.

On Deck

Dickinson (9-5) is slated to get right back at it tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m. when the Red and White host local foe Messiah University at Macphail Field.
