Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The eighth-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team fell behind 4-2 after one but then allowed just three goals over the final 45-minutes en route to an 11-7 win over Swarthmore College in their Centennial Conference opener on Saturday at Clothier Field Stadium.
An early penalty against Dickinson led to Swarthmore taking a 1-0 lead on a man-up tally by Jackson Brosgol inside the opening minute. The Red and White recorded the next five shots with Cam Battisti, Tucker Booth, Skyler Schluter, and Matt Thurston all missing the mark before Ethan Gess beat Shane Nachshen. The home side made it 2-1 at the 8:29 mark after DC keeper Patrick Scarborough turned the ball over leading to Ryan Chambliss hitting the back of the net, which was followed on the ensuing possession by Von Mabbs extending the margin to 3-1. After the Dickinson defense forced a shot clock violation Schluter buried the rock at the other end to cut it down to 3-2. However, Mabbs added one more just before the horn to take a 4-2 edge into the second.
The Red Devils began the next quarter on fire scoring on two of their first three shots as Owen Porter scored off a nice dish from Booth, prior to James Isaacson notching his first of the day after John McKee was able to win the faceoff. Over the next four minutes, each side had two shots with Sascha Gannon and Thurston firing wide, while at the other end Scarborough made a pair of saves stopping Quin Seivold and Danny Lowe. However, it would once again be Mabbs tallying a goal as he took advantage of a DC miscue. That sparked the Garnet attack as they recorded the next eight shots, forcing four more stops from Scarborough. The momentum from the last stop resulted in Schluter putting away his second to tie the score at 5-5 going to the break.
Once again Scarborough was put under duress early in the third making two more stops which led to Thurston picking up a groundball and going coast to coast to make it 6-5. Dickinson extended their advantage to 7-5 just four seconds later as McKee won the faceoff and found Schluter who hit Thurston for the goal. The Red and White continued to ride the momentum wave as Isaacson bested Nachshen, before Griffin Moore got his first of the day man-up to push the DC advantage out to 9-5 with 8:15 left in the third. Three minutes later Mabbs ended the Devils four-goal run with his fourth of the game to cut the deficit down to 9-6. Dickinson had six more shots in the period, but none of them would get on target.
To start the fourth the Red and White kept up the pressure in the attacking end as Will Farrell, Booth, Isaacson, and Thurston all let shots fly towards Nachshen, unfortunately, none beat the keeper. It would take until the 5:30 mark to see the first goal when Farrell hit Thurston by the crease for the finish bumping the lead out to 10-6. The Garnet answered back three minutes later with Carter Strauch sending an offering beyond the reach of Scarborough. There would only be one more goal in the contest and came courtesy of Porter as he was setup by his fellow first-year Thurston for the 11-7 final.
