Isaacson's Career Day Pushes #9 Devils Past Mules

Box Score

CARLISLE, Pa. - Dickinson men's lacrosse sophomore midfielder James Isaacson recorded a career-high five points thanks to four goals and one helper as the ninth-ranked Devils earned a 14-10 Centennial Conference win over the visiting Muhlenberg College Mules on Saturday afternoon at Biddle Field.

Dickinson applied the early pressure recording five of the opening eight shots of the contest with Will Farrell, Owen Porter, and Matt Thurston all missing the mark, before Thurston was stopped by Mules goalie Max May. Muhlenberg would take the lead at the 4:40 mark as Matt Marrella found Dominick Visintin, before the same connection solved Chris Brandau four minutes later for a 2-0 edge with 6:11 left. The visitors took a 3-0 lead off the ensuing faceoff through Jack Kraemer. However, the remaining three minutes of the period belonged to the Red and White as they fired the final six shots of the quarter with Sam Campbell, Farrell, and Isaacson drawing the game level after one.

The two sides traded markers to begin the second with Kraemer striking man-up, before Porter buried the rock beyond May off a setup from Thurston. Dickinson appeared to have a lid on the net during the next eight minutes as Skyler Schluter, Ethan Gess, Campbell, and Thurston all were shutdown by May. Fortunately, for the Devils a save by Brandau with 6:46 to go seemed to flip the momentum with Isaacson and Campbell adding to their tallies giving DC a 6-4 advantage at the 9:47 mark. Dickinson would tack on two more prior to the break thanks to Colin Williams and Griffin Moore extending the lead to 8-4 at half.

The Red Devils kept attacking right out of the break as John McKee won the faceoff and sent a shot just wide, before Sascha Gannon and Porter both hit crossbar. However, the Red and White would finally breakthrough with 5:24 off the clock with Tucker Booth hitting the back of the cage, followed by a goal by Isaacson just over a minute later pushing the gap to 10-4. Muhlenberg halted the 7-0 DC run two minutes later with Connor Riebling and Ethan Grossman both scoring 56-seconds apart. The final goal of the period came at the 11:57 mark when Booth found Farrell at the top of the offensive set for the bullseye giving the Red and White an 11-6 advantage through 45-minutes.

A late slash against the Mules led to the Devils beginning the final frame with a man-up situation which Thurston finished off on a dish from Porter making it 12-6. Muhlenberg hit the net on three of their next five shots with Kraemer tallying twice while Wyatt Malia netted one to close the gap down to 12-9 still with 9:00 to play. Six of the ensuing nine shots belonged to the Devils with Isaacson and Campbell ripping the back of the net unassisted stretching the margin to 14-9 at the 10:09 mark. Matt Burke won the following faceoff for the Mules leading to the last goal of the contest thanks to Malia to cut it to 14-10. The remaining four minutes became the Brandau show as the keeper made three stops to close out the game.
