Men's Tennis Drop Conference Opener

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Dickinson men's tennis team began Centennial Conference play with an 8-1 setback against the host Washington College Shoremen on Saturday afternoon.

Doubles (Washington 3-0)

The top pair of Romano De Caprio and Will Lewis began the day by coming up short against Karl Hoegstedt and Andrew Smith by a score of 8-3. Garrick Adams and Thomas Griffin held their own versus Koby Bonta and Landon Strober, but dropped an 8-5 decision. At third doubles, DJ Finnell and Levi Veleanu slipped up against Brady Burns and Ryohei Kawai, 8-3. 

Singles (Washington 5-1)

Dickinson would earn their lone point of the match at fourth singles when De Caprio rallied back from a 1-0 deficit against Andrew Province to pick up a 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 win. Griffin was able to take seven games off of Kawai, but would not be enough in 4-6, 3-6 defeat. The Red and White trio of Adams, Lewis, and Veleanu could only combine to win six games, while Florian Anderson fell to Andrew Smith.

The Red Devils (4-6, 0-1 Centennial) will return to the home court on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.when they welcome Gettysburg College to the Hays Tennis Courts.
