Devils Complete Season Sweep of Bullets

Box Score

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson baseball team used a pitch-by-committee approach on Friday afternoon by throwing four different arms at the visiting Gettysburg College Bullets to complete the season-sweep with a hard-fought 5-4 Centennial Conference win at MacPhail Field.

Pitching Decision

W - Koll Peichel (1-3) | L - Ian Gannaway (2-2) | S - Beau Dana (3)

Inside the Game

After Brian Riley had no issues taking care of the Bullets in the first the Devils would take advantage of three errors by Gettysburg starter Ian Gannaway to score twice in the home-half. Kenny Tagliareni began the proceedings with a bunt single. He went to second on a failed pickoff attempt from Gannaway, before Tom Gannaway blooped a single to right to put men on the corners for Andrew Mazzone. He plated one with a sac fly to right. That brought Cole Hare to the dish. During his attempt, Gannaway went to second on another failed pickoff and then swiped third which led to his brother's third miscue of the frame letting him score for a 2-0 edge through one.

Riley was unable to produce the shutdown inning in the second as he allowed a single and two walks to fill the bases for JR McCloskey. He sent a full-count offering into "no man's land" in shallow left to drive in two with two away. Riley settled himself down to get Kyle Miller to groundout to Tagliareni at second. GC threatened in the third as they loaded the bases with one gone, but Riley induced a double-play out of Jack Pistner to stall things. The Devils would reclaim the advantage in the bottom of the frame with Tagliareni picking up a hit to lead things off and then came home on Mazzone's second RBI of the contest. A walk to Lukas Atsalis put two on for Matt Torres, unfortunately, he bounced into a fielder's choice to wrap up the inning at 3-2 DC.

Riley ran into some two-out problems during the fifth as he allowed a single and a free pass to put two on for Mark Seibert. He would not however face Riley as Koll Peichel came into the game. Peichel plunked Seibert with his first pitch, before walking Pistner to score one and knot things 3-3. The Red and White found a response immediately as a walk and single put two in scoring position for Hare. He took on Bullets reliever Andrew Weinbrum and came up with a productive groundout to score Tagliareni for the 4-3 advantage going to the sixth. Dickinson added one to their advantage an inning later with Luke Jackson going deep over the right-field wall.

Joey Sangiuolo entered his second inning out of the pen to start the eighth and hit some issues with a double from Preston Toothman as well as a knock for David Preziuso led to an RBI hit for McCloskey. Beau Dana then took over on the hill and got a double-play from Miller and a pop-up by Matt Muir to retire the side. Dana then picked up two strikeouts and groundout to shut the door in the ninth.
